Get fit and have fun this spring
The weather this winter has given many of us a bad case of cabin fever. This spring, get out of the house and be active by trying one of several leagues or clubs.
Kansas City Frontrunners
The Kansas City Frontrunners have been around for more than 30 years, with groups in most major cities. The club is open to all skill levels, from walkers to distance runners and everyone in between. The group meets at 9 a.m. Sundays and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Locations vary and are given before the runs on Facebook. In addition to the weekly runs, the group also gathers for club functions and get-togethers. facebook.com/Kansas City Frontrunners
Heart of America Softball League
Another organization that has been around for more than 30 years is the Heart of America Softball League (HASL). Teams are forming now and there will be a softball clinic for players on March 22 and April 5 at Rosedale Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you do not have a team, be sure to go to haslkc.com and register. Games are every Sunday (except holiday weekends), April 27 through mid-summer.
If you prefer the water over dry land, the KC Wave meets at 8 p.m. every Tuesday at UMKC’s Swinney Rec Center. New members can register at kcwave.org or pay the $7 visitor pass at Swinney’s front desk. The KC Wave is an LGBTIA swim team that meets once a week for both a physical workout and a social gathering. Their swimmers’ skills range from having basic swimming skills to US Masters swimmers.
